Group income protection

Salary multiples, explained
Group life cover is usually set as a multiple of salary, commonly two, three or four times, paid tax-free to an employee's family if they die while working for you. A higher multiple costs more but makes a stronger statement of how you look after people. We help you set a level that is meaningful without overpaying, and that sits correctly with any pension scheme rules.
Employer tax treatment
Set up under an approved scheme, group life premiums are an allowable business expense for you and are not a benefit in kind for the employee, and the lump sum is paid tax-free to their family. Group income protection premiums are likewise deductible for the employer and not a benefit in kind; when a claim is paid, the benefit is taxed as income through payroll. Between them they are among the most tax-efficient benefits you can offer.
The claims process, honestly
The part employers worry about is what happens at claim time. For group life, the scheme pays the lump sum to the employee's family, usually quickly and without fuss. For income protection there is a deferred period, after which the insurer pays the benefit through your payroll for as long as the employee cannot work, up to the scheme terms.
We handle the insurer relationship so a claim runs as smoothly as it can at a hard time. We don't disappear at claim time, and a grieving family or an ill employee isn't left navigating paperwork alone.
