My Future Fund vs your own scheme

My Future Fund (State scheme)

Simple, no setup, but limited fund choice and flexibility, and no employer branding or added value.

Your own occupational scheme

More fund choice, flexibility and a stronger retention story — with our support on setup and admin.

Sample scheme structures by company size

10 employees

A straightforward group scheme with a single default fund and light-touch admin.

50 employees

Tiered contributions, fund choice and an annual on-site clinic.

200 employees

Full benefit statements, comms programme and dedicated servicing.

Employee communications

The bit most employers underestimate. We don’t just help you put a pension scheme in place. We help your employees understand it. We explain how the scheme works, what it means for them and what choices they have, while providing ongoing support when questions come up.

It means your HR team isn’t left answering pension questions, and your employees have a dedicated person they can turn to.

What will auto-enrolment cost my business?

Auto-enrolment adds a new payroll cost for many employers, and this shows you roughly what to expect. Enter your number of employees and their salaries and it works out the employer contribution as the phased rates rise over the first years of the scheme. Use it to budget, and to weigh the State scheme against setting up or improving your own. The figures are indicative; the right scheme depends on your workforce and what you already offer, which is where a 30-minute review with one of the team earns its keep.

Indicative only. Assumes every employee entered is in scope and applies the rate to full salary. The scheme applies an earnings band, so your real cost may be lower. Confirm current rates before you budget. This is an illustration, not financial advice, and not a quote.

Auto-enrolment questions, answered

A State-backed pension scheme (My Future Fund) that automatically enrols eligible employees who aren’t already in a qualifying workplace pension, with mandatory employer contributions.

Employees aged 23–60 earning above the threshold who aren’t in a qualifying scheme. We help you identify exactly who is in scope.

Employer contributions phase in over years. Our cost estimator gives a starting figure based on your headcount and payroll.

No. My Future Fund is rigid and fixed by legislation. There is no option for additional contributions, no tax relief on employee contributions and no flexibility on accessing funds before retirement age 66.

Maybe, if it qualifies. We check whether your existing scheme meets the standard or needs adjusting.

Now. Setting up or reviewing a scheme properly takes time, and employee communications shouldn’t be rushed.

We can take on scheme setup, provider liaison and employee communications, so it isn’t all on your payroll team.

There are specific opt-out and re-enrolment rules. We make sure both you and your employees understand them.
