How BDS started
BDS Financial was founded in 1989 by David Sheahan — father of Bryan, David and Barbara — on a simple idea: people deserve advice from someone who works for them, not for one insurance company.
The firm still carries his name and the way he set it up: a family-run brokerage that answers to its clients, not to any product manufacturer.

The Compass Financial Services acquisition
In March 2024, we welcomed Enda Carty and his business, Compass Financial, into BDS Financial. Enda brought decades of experience in long-horizon retirement and investment planning, along with a loyal client base who share our belief in client-focused advice. It's been a natural fit from day one, and Enda continues to work closely with us and with his clients today, offering the same trusted guidance they've always relied on.
We opened in Dublin the same month, taking over the Sandyford office as part of the acquisition.

Hartstonge Street, and the CSL Financial acquisition
In March 2026 our Limerick office moved from Riverpoint to 3 Hartstonge Street, where we are today.
In August 2026, we acquired CSL Limited — a decision that felt like a natural next step for us. Our father, David, was one of the original founders of CSL before going on to establish BDS. When Noel decided it was time to hang up his boots, we were keen to put ourselves forward to acquire the business, building on its strong foundations while continuing to grow BDS and strengthen our family legacy within the industry.
Today we also work from our third office, at Liosban Business Park in Galway.
